The dates

Thanksgiving 2026 falls on Thursday, November 26. Black Friday is November 27 and Cyber Monday is November 30. Last year the music retailers did not wait for the Friday: Music & Arts published its sale as valid from November 20 through November 30, and the coverage we read from MusicRadar and Guitar.com was still reporting live deals on November 28 and 30, running into Cyber Monday. Expect the same shape this year — a window of roughly ten days rather than a single morning.

What discounted last year, by product class

Every row below is something we read in a dated article or on a retailer’s own page, listed in the sources at the bottom. It is a record, not a forecast: the fact that a model discounted last November does not mean it will this November, and we will not say it does until we see it.

What did not appear, and why it probably will not

The pattern that matters for this site’s reader is what was missing from every list we read. The student band and orchestra instruments our guides recommend — the Yamaha YTR-2330 trumpet, YFL-222 flute, YCL-255 clarinet and YAS-26 alto, and the Stentor and Cremona violin outfits — did not appear in any of the 2025 Black Friday coverage we read. We looked at Yamaha USA’s own Black Friday page on the date shown in the sources, and the products listed there were portable keyboards, the P-45 digital piano, Pacifica and GigMaker guitar packages, TRBX basses, electronic drums and a digital saxophone. No acoustic band or orchestra instrument was on it.

That is not proof they never discount, and we will not claim it is. It is consistent with how this part of the trade works. Most established instrument brands sell under minimum advertised price policies, which restrict the price a retailer may advertise without restricting what it may actually sell for. In practice that means the student trumpet costs the same on every website, that a coupon like Music & Arts’ 20% off is the usual form a discount takes on those instruments, and that the fine print about “manufacturer restrictions” is there for a reason. It also means the real November discount on a student band instrument, where one exists, may be found by phoning a shop rather than by waiting for a banner.

How to read a Black Friday price

Three checks, and none of them require a tool. First, compare the sale price to what the item cost in October, not to the struck-through “list” figure, which on many instruments is a number nobody has paid in years. Second, on a bundle, look at what the bundle adds: a stand, a bench and a pedal are worth having, a “free” instructional DVD is not. Third, on a student instrument, ask whether the discounted model is the one the director named. A cheaper trumpet with a different model number is not the same trumpet on sale.

Where Amazon reports a discount against its own list price, the struck-through figure and the percentage appear under the button; where it does not, nothing does. We do not add a discount line ourselves, and the feed expires on its own after 48 hours so a stale number cannot linger.

What we will and will not post here

When deals go live, we will post the ones on products we already recommend, with the retailer, the price, and the date we saw it. We will not post a deal on a product our guides tell readers to skip, however large the percentage, because a bad instrument at 40% off is a bad instrument. We will not invent a countdown, a “predicted” price, or an “expected” discount. And if nothing worth posting appears in a given class, the page will say so rather than pad the list.
