What our content is
Editorial opinion and compiled published information, provided for general guidance. It is written to help people make sensible purchasing decisions about beginner musical instruments.
What our content is not
- Not a substitute for a teacher. Where a music teacher or band director has given advice about a specific student, follow theirs over ours. They have heard the student play and we have not.
- Not testing results. We have not played the instruments we write about and we say so throughout. Our fit scores are editorial judgments derived from published specifications, described in full on our methodology page.
- Not professional advice of any regulated kind.
Prices and availability
Prices shown are supplied by a live retailer data feed and carry the date they were checked. They change constantly and may be out of date or incorrect by the time you see them. The price and availability at the retailer at the moment of purchase is the one that applies. Where no live price is available we show “Check price” rather than a number.
Affiliate relationships

The text, tables and original graphics on this site belong to Type 5 Marketing LLC. You are welcome to quote short excerpts with a link back. Wholesale reproduction of our tables or guides is not permitted.
